One particular of my preferred animated capabilities as a child, THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH is a exceptional cinematic translation of the unique e-book, and a testament to the genius of Chuck Jones. This new DVD is a real deal with for enthusiasts of TOLLBOOTH, as it is the very first time we get to see the movie in its original widescreen format since it was first in theaters. The biggest kick for me was to share this timeless movie with my children, who are the two about the exact same age I was when my people took me to the theater to see it in the 70's. In this age of 3-D and CGI animation, I didn't know how they would reply to the scaled-down simplicity of this 40 yr previous film. I should not have been amazed how a lot they loved it. They have watched it about ten times given that it arrived...and sometimes they allow me see with them!Thank you Warner Archive men and women for this DVD...it is a real treasure!

This is a wonderful cartoon that definitely did justice to the e-book. To me, it has held up because it was initially produced and nonetheless applies to present-day culture. A bored youth learns how to use his creativeness.Unfortunately, the quality of this DVD is not really good. Whilst it does say remastered, I found that the image excellent was quite grainy and effectively worn.As well as, the initially copy I obtained did not work...jumped and skipped and made the film unwatchable. Warner very easily and speedily sent me a substitute that did work, but I come across that MOD films are inherently flawed and get various tries to get a doing work copy. To lousy this fantastic classic will not get the DVD it deserves.

This film/Cartoon brings again so several recollections of my childhood, the entertaining times, the carelessness of youth and brings a perception of when instances had been alot much less frantic and totally free. For the time time period this movie was very well accomplished, cheesy but who cares when it is such a entertaining film. Just glad it is finally on DVD. As for anything lousy to say I cannot consider of something as this is some thing I grew up with and enjoy it just the very same now as I did then.

This is a definite update from the VHS release. The transfer is improved, even though it really is nonetheless delicate in some locations, and the reside motion sequences have occasional dust scratches, particularly noticeable on any processed pictures. The color looks excellent though, and the sound is solid and strong, specifically for a mono film. The ideal aspect is seeing the film as it was proven originally in the theatres with a wide-screen "matted" presentation. I'm certain some individuals will prefer the 4x3 full-frame VHS picture, considering that it shows much more on the prime and bottom, but I choose viewing films in their intended ratio. As far as the movie goes, I adore the story. I was a admirer of the ebook as a little one, and, although the movie takes some liberties, it's nonetheless really efficient and engaging. Older people will take pleasure in some of the philosophical themes, as properly.

Ever considering that I received a DVD player in 2002, I determined to replace all of my VHS movies with their DVD counterparts. This was the final movie in my VHS collection that nevertheless hadn't made it to DVD, till now. The clarity of the picture is excellent, but the movie still has a ton of dirt spots that pop up a ton. It worked in my transportable DVD player, my computer, and even my PlayStation two. Even though it might play in my regular DVD player, it doesn't perform quite properly on it, as these scrambled spots show up in the picture. It's as well bad this can only go to DVD-R, but at the very least there are not any additional movies that I want on DVD. I feel I will nevertheless keep my VHS copy all around given that this is on DVD-R, and could possibly stop working at some level.
