I have been photographing for numerous years as each professional and enthusiast with Leica's, Hasselblad's and Nikon's, and I am continually astonished at the picture top quality from the Canon G12, even from its jpegs (UNCOOKED is really impressive). I commonly photograph with the two formats, jpg and UNCOOKED, and save occasions are normally three seconds at most--not inconvenient but not instant both. Startup is very fast with the G12, AF is precise, and the close-up abilities are crisply extraordinary at wide-angle. The screen is greeat, I like the exposure dial and ISO dial, do not have to get into the menu to make adjustments.
